Thousands of people attended the funeral of five martyrs in Qamishlo.
Thousands of people attended the funeral of five martyrs of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces who lost their lives in airstrikes carried out by the Turkish state and its proxies in Qamishlo, Manbij, and Aleppo. The ceremony was held at the Martyr Delil Saroxan Cemetery.
The martyrs were SDF fighters Harûn Qamishlo (Şêxmûs Yûsif), Mazlum Qamishlo (Ferhad Xelil), Murad Qamishlo (Ebdulmecid El Diyab), Internal Security Forces member Mizgîn Kurdo, and SDF commando fighter Zagros Qamishlo (Ehmed El Mihemed). Families, relatives, and friends of the martyrs, members of political parties, Kongra Star, and civil society organizations attended the ceremony. A march took place from the morgue in the Enteriye neighborhood to the cemetery in the Meyselun neighborhood.
Following a minute of silence at the Martyr Delil Saroxan Cemetery, Mihemed Ebas, a member of the Qamishlo Martyrs’ Families Council, extended condolences to the families of the martyrs. Ebas stated that the first steps of the 19 July Revolution were taken together with the martyrs and affirmed their continued struggle on the martyrs’ path.
Mihemed Ebas also emphasized their adherence to the philosophy of Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), declaring that no matter the cost of freedom, they would not back down.
Reşo Qamishlo, a member of the Qamishlo Military Council, noted that Northern and Eastern Syria were going through sensitive times and praised the strong resistance of the people. He added: "In the coming period, we will have good news for our people."
Mihdiya Hilal, a member of the Internal Security Forces, praised the bravery and intelligence of martyr Mizgîn Kurdo and promised to continue following the path of the martyrs.
Casir Salih, a member of the Democratic Islam Congress, highlighted the unity of the region’s people, regardless of differences, stating that "there is no place among us for those who sow discord."
Rihan Loqo, spokesperson for Kongra Star, said that the people have consistently resisted attacks and supported the freedom fighters. She remarked that the martyrs had fought against all occupying forces to protect the identity of the people and ensure a peaceful life for future generations. Rihan Loqo also noted that "for 12 years, there have been attacks against the democratic nation project and the women-led revolution. We promise our martyrs to continue our struggle on the path of freedom."
During the ceremony, martyr Mazlum Qamishlo's brother, Feysel Xelil, and martyr Harun Qamishlo's uncle, Welid El Xefo, both vowed not to allow the occupying Turkish state to sow division among the people.
After the speeches, the martyrdom certificates of the five martyrs were read aloud and presented to their families.
At the end of the ceremony, the martyrs were laid to rest with slogans honoring their sacrifice.
