In Northeast Syria, thousands of people took to the streets today to protest against the Turkish occupation attacks on Southern Kurdistan. In Rojava, too, there are increasing signs that the occupation is expanding.

Thousands of people have protested in Northeast Syria today against the Turkish invasion in Southern Kurdistan. The Council of Martyrs’ Families had called for the demonstrations in Qamişlo, Çilaxa, Aleppo, Kobanê, Til Birak and Shehba. On Sunday, protests took place in Dêrik and Amûdê, while further demonstrations are planned in other cities during the week.

The background is the invasion of Turkey in Southern Kurdistan that started a week ago. With the de facto approval of the international community and states, the Turkish air force has bombed the surroundings of the Maxmur refugee camp, the Yazidi settlement area Shengal (Sinjar) and guerrilla areas. On Wednesday, the military action, which violates international law, was extended by an air and ground invasion in the region of Heftanin. In Rojava, too, there are increasing signs of an expansion of the occupation attacks.

In Qamishlo people went marched front of the UNHCR-representation and made clear their protest against Turkey and the silence of the international community in slogsns and with banners and pictures.

At a rally in Kobanê, Rawşen Haçim of the women's umbrella organization Kongreya Star stated that the Turkish state is fighting the existence of the Kurdish people. On a banner it was pointed out that Erdogan wants to revive both the ISIS and the Ottoman Empire.
