Two temporary shelter centres to be set up in Tabqa and Raqqa

There are no immediate solutions to address the current situation in North-East Syria. The lack of international assistance and a safe corridor to ensure the arrival of displaced families compounds the crisis.

In Tabqa, large tents have already been erected in the sports complex, while in Raqqa, approximately 60 families are currently residing in a school which was previously occupied by about 54,515 students.

This has created a significant shortage in facilities to cater to both displaced persons and the educational process. Similarly, in Tabqa, schools are accommodating about 61 families, affecting 48,013 students, highlighting the severe need for proper shelters and essential infrastructure.

The schools currently used as shelters are unsuitable for hosting displaced persons due to inadequate water supply, poor sanitation, and a lack of heating facilities. There is an urgent need to equip the centres with proper drinking water systems, sanitation facilities, and heating equipment.

The influx of displaced persons to the regions of North and East Syria is expected to create a gap in the already strained humanitarian aid sector. The current need exceeds available resources, particularly in terms of hygiene kits, food supplies, and non-food items such as stoves and fuel.

There are no immediate solutions to address the current situation. The lack of international assistance and a safe corridor to ensure the arrival of displaced families compounds the crisis. The closure of the Al-Buasiy crossing, which links the DAANES areas with regime-controlled territories, further hinders aid delivery.

Key Needs

The humanitarian crisis among displaced persons from Shehba and those recently arriving in Tabqa and Raqqa requires urgent intervention. The following resources are essential to meet the immediate needs:

34,000 prefabricated caravans to accommodate 17,000 displaced families,

34,000 water tanks and associated plumbing systems,

34,000 stoves and heaters,

17,000 bathroom units to cover basic hygiene needs,

34,000 kitchen kits for cooking essentials,

Bedding items such as carpets, mattresses, blankets, and pillows,

Solar energy networks for powering schools and facilities, considering the estimated 14,000 students requiring access to education.

The necessary provisions for each cluster of caravans include:

Medical points equipped with ambulances and medicine for chronic illnesses, as well as essential items like baby milk and nappies,

Schools for all education levels,

Solar power systems for sustainable energy needs.

The worsening humanitarian conditions in Shehba, Tal Rifaat, Tabqa, and Raqqa necessitate immediate support to mitigate the difficulties faced by displaced persons. The continuous displacement due to forced migration and military conflicts in Aleppo and its surrounding regions has resulted in significant challenges for citizens, particularly in accessing food, healthcare, and emergency aid.

In light of this crisis, urgent action and the provision of essential humanitarian assistance are required, especially in Tabqa and Raqqa, to alleviate the suffering of displaced people.
