Martyr Agir Şervan (Levi Jonathan Shirley), fell a martyr in Manbij on 14 July 2016. The YPG International paid tribute to him, saying that “he saw his responsibility in the history of fighters who united against fascism in the past.”

In a statement, the YPG International said: “Martyr Agir Şervan’s decision to risk his own life for the peoples of the Middle East long before the U.S. saw the need to support the YPG is a great example of how defending the values of humanity is a reflex of people, not states.”

The statement recalled how one of his comrades said of him, ‘it was in Agir's nature to risk everything to protect the innocent people who were suffering the most,’ and continued: “He didn't come for money or awards, but to do the right thing at the exact time it was needed.

Many others followed him on his path.

And he will remain a role model for the people of the United States and beyond. Not to accept injustice in the world or the attempts of states to cover up their own role in it, but to dedicate our lives to creating and protecting a free world.”

The statement continued: “The society on whose side Levi fought is now facing another war against fascism. The Turkish state is continuously attacking North & East Syria and announced another invasion, with the city of his martyrdom - Manbij - as one of the first targets.

Turkey wants to bring to an end what ISIS was not able to do, because so many like Şehîd Agir gave their lives to stop them.

To keep his memory means to continue his struggle for the people of Manbij and the whole Middle East. Şehîd Namirin.”
