In north-eastern Syria, civilian settlement areas have been under fire from Turkish jihadist occupation forces since the morning. The attacks are concentrated on the town of Til Temir in the Christian-populated Khabur Valley and the town of Zirgan further north.
In Til Temir, the villages of Sheikh Ali and Umm Khair (also Umm al-Khayr), north and northwest of the town centre, are affected by the attacks.
In Zirgan, the occupation forces bombarded the town centre, the southern village of Xirbet Şeîr and the villages of Esediyê, Niwêhat, Dada Ebdal, Bobî and Rebîat. Two rockets are reported to have hit the town centre, and unmanned combat drones are circling over the region. There are no reports of casualties or deaths so far.
Zirgan (ar. Abu Rasen) is located about thirty kilometres east of the city of Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ain), which is already fully occupied by Turkey, and lies on the edge of a connecting road between the strategic transport routes 712 and M4. It is barely 25 kilometres to the town of Til Temir, which Turkey also wants to incorporate into its illegal occupation zone after Zirgan. The constant incursions by Turkey and its mercenaries into the region are violations of the ceasefire and de-escalation agreements agreed between the guarantor powers Russia and the US with Turkey in October 2019. Nevertheless, both Moscow and Washington have so far refrained from intervention.
