Iranian forces arrest at least 12 Kurdish civilians, activists after general strike

The arrests follow a general strike by businesses in Kurdish cities protesting the death sentences against Kurdish political prisoners.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported that Iranian security forces have arrested at least 12 Kurdish civilians and activists over the past week in Mahabad, Sanandaj, Naqadeh, Piranshahr, Sardasht, Marivan, and Dehgolan. The arrests follow a general strike by businesses in Kurdish cities protesting the death sentences against Kurdish political prisoners.

The strike, which took place on 22 January following a call by Kurdish political parties for a general strike to protest against the death sentences of Pakhshan Azizi, Warisha Moradi and other political prisoners, saw widespread closures in several cities in Kurdistan.

On 22 January, Parsa Rahimi, a shopkeeper, was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.

On 25 January, security forces arrested Mansour Mowloudpouri, a civilian from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, without a warrant at his workplace, taking him to an undisclosed location.

On the same day, Afshin Mostafapour, a civilian from Naqadeh, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested after being summoned to the office of the Ministry of Intelligence in the city.

At the same time, Ministry of Intelligence forces arrested Farzad Hamidi, a civilian from Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, at his home in the city without a warrant.

On 26 January, Ministry of Intelligence forces raided the family home of Nasser Ahmadzadeh in Mahabad and arrested him without a warrant.

On the same day, Ministry agents also arrested Zagros Rasouli, an environmental activist from Mahabad, during a raid on his workplace in the city.

Mohammad Ramazani, another environmental activist from Mahabad, was also arrested by security forces in the city on 26 January and taken to an undisclosed location.

On the same day, Hassan Khalili, a retired teacher and civil rights activist from Sardasht, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested without a warrant by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in the city. He was released after being interrogated for two days.

On 27 January, Ministry of Intelligence agents arrested Farhad Zandi and Mehdi Javanmardi, two civil rights activists from Dehgolan, Kurdistan Province, in the city and took them to an undisclosed location.

At the same time, Chiako Ghorbeh, a civilian from Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, was arrested without a warrant by security forces at a café in the city.
