In a written statement on Friday, the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E) said: "The Kurdish People's Leader, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, has been kept under isolation in Imrali F Type Closed Prison for 25 years. For more than 3 years, he has not been allowed to meet with anyone, including his family and lawyers, which is an unprecedented practice in the world".

The statement continued: "It is seen by all of us that NATO and the European Union countries, the forces behind the handover of Öcalan to Turkey through an international conspiracy, are today a part of these antidemocratic practices implemented by the AKP-MHP fascist regime.

As part of the 'Freedom for Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question' campaign launched by friends of Kurds from different countries on 10 October 2023, calls and protests have been organised many times to get information about Öcalan’s condition and health. The isolation of Leader Öcalan is part of the war policies against the Kurds and the Kurdish freedom struggle. A call for unity was made with the second phase of the freedom campaign against this special war method, which is intended to be applied wave by wave against the entire society.

An institution established by the Council of Europe, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), which has the authority to go to İmralı Island, is not only responsible for the antidemocratic practices in European countries. Turkey should be reminded that it is also a signatory to the decisions of these commissions and should immediately put an end to these practices.”

Pointing out that prisons in Turkey have turned into torture centres due to the CPT's ambiguous approach, the statement said: "It should be ensured that this unlawfulness ends as soon as possible, accurate and realistic reports are shared with the public and the fascist AKP-MHP alliance, which is directly responsible for these problems, is put on trial. European countries should also take a side in the struggle for the protection of human rights by putting an end to their inaction against these antidemocratic practices due to diplomatic relations."

The statement concluded: "In the second phase of the campaign, we will work to send letters to the CPT through women's organisations, starting from Europe on 19 April. Through the letters to be sent from different cities every day, we will remind the CPT of its duties and responsibilities with our demands for the restoration of the legal and legal rights of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the lifting of absolute isolation, and the paving of the way for his freedom by ending 25 years of isolation policies, and we will ensure that it takes a stand in favour of human rights. Underlining once again that we will not accept a life without the leader, we call on everyone to take their place in the Freedom Movement and increase the struggle."
