In its daily statement about the war in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported 34 attacks by the Turkish invading forces within the last two days with fighter jets, howitzers and heavy weapons. The guerrilla areas Girê Çarçêl and Girê Bahar in Metîna were bombed from the air on 13 April. The targets of the attacks with heavy weapons were Girê Şehîd Piling in Metîna, the Girê Cûdî resistance area and guerrilla positions in Çemço and Sîda in the Zap region.
In Sîda, an armed confrontation occurred when the guerrillas responded to a Turkish attack in self-defence at 11 a.m. on 14 April.
The Kurdish liberation movement has suspended all militant operations for the time being on humanitarian grounds following the 6 February earthquake disaster. The decision is to be reassessed after Turkey's elections on 14 May. The guerrillas are therefore in a defensive position and only take action in self-defence.
