HPG reports intensive Turkish attacks on guerrilla areas in South Kurdistan
Turkish forces continue to shell the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) amid huge celebrations marking the Kurdish New Year, Newroz.
Turkish forces continue to shell the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) amid huge celebrations marking the Kurdish New Year, Newroz.
The People's Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement concerning the latest Turkish attacks, saying; “The invading Turkish army, troubled with the spectacular Newroz celebrations of our people and guerrilla forces, carried out intense attacks on the Medya Defense Zones.”
The HPG Press Centre released the following information pertaining to the latest attacks of the invading Turkish state:
“The people of Kurdistan flocked to the Newroz areas in the spirit of resistance and victory of our guerrilla forces that developed historic resistance against all the attacks of the invading Turkish army in Mamreşo, Zendura, Girê Sor and Werxelê. Our guerrilla forces also celebrated Newroz Day with enthusiastic and spectacular events. The invading Turkish army, troubled with the spectacular Newroz celebrations of our people and guerrilla forces, carried out intense attacks on the Medya Defense Zones. Our forces suffered no casualties during the Turkish attacks.
The details of the attacks are as follows:
On March 12, between 20:15 and 23:00, the Werxelê area in the Avaşîn region was bombed with heavy weapons.
On March 14, at 07:40, the vicinity of the Sêdarê village in the Garê area was shelled 3 times by Turkish fighter jets and by howitzers fired from the outposts in the Girê Bihar of the Zap region.
On March 14, between 17:00 and 17:30, the Golka area of the Metîna region was shelled twice by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 14, between 16:45 and 17:30, the Werxelê area in the Avaşîn, the Saca area in the Zap region and the slopes of Girê Şehîd Şerîf in the Xakûrkê region were shelled 5 times by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 16, between 12:00 and 21:30, Turkish helicopters were reported on the Qaşura line of the Metîna region. The vicinities of Serarû, Êdinê, Dergelê and Deşîşê villages as well as Girê Koordîne and Kela Qumriyê were shelled by attack helicopters.
On March 16, at 17:50, the Girê Ortê slopes of the Metîna area and between 18:00 and 20:00 the Karker and Girê Cehennem areas of the Zap region were shelled 5 times by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 17, at 02:30, the Şehîd Şahin area of the Zap region was shelled twice by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 19, at 16:00, the Gundê Gûzê area in the Garê region was shelled twice by Turkish fighter jets. On the same day, between 16:00 and 18:00, the Gundê Fileha area of the Zap region was shelled twice by howitzers fired from the outposts on the border line, and the Kûnîşka area was shelled twice by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 20, between 00:30 and 02:30, the Werxelê area in the Avaşîn region was shelled with howitzers, and the Kela Bedewê area in the Zap region was shelled by attack helicopters.
On March 21, at 12:00, the Kafya area in the Garê region was shelled by Turkish fighter jets.
On March 21, between 09:00 and 12:00, the slopes of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bihar in the Zap region were shelled 3 times by Turkish fighter jets and howitzers fired from the outposts on the border line in the Girê FM area. On the same day, the Saca area of the Zap region was shelled twice by Turkish fighter jets.”
