Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.

The HPG Press Liaison Center said, “The occupying Turkish army continues its attacks, aerial and ground bombardments against our forces in the ceasefire position. Two of our comrades were martyred in an UCAV attack in Garê.”

The HPG stated the following regarding the details of the attacks carried out by the occupying Turkish army and the response of the guerrilla forces to the attacks:

Attacks by warplanes

Two of our comrades were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army at 11:28 and 11:29 on April 7. The identity information of our martyred comrades will be announced later.

On April 8 and 9, the areas of Ergenê and Yekmalê in Garê region were bombed twice, Bêşîlî Resistance Area in Metîna region was bombed once, and Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed once.

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

On April 9, the occupying Turkish army launched an invasion operation in the vicinity of Kanî Mezinê village in Metîna region. During the course of the operation, vineyards and gardens belonging to the villagers were set on fire and burned by the invaders.

Between April 9-12, the Turkish army carried out a total of 1026 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers, targeting the areas of Berê Zînê, Sinînê, Lolan in Xakurkê region 33 times; the areas of Kanî Sarkê, Dêreşê, Mijê, Girê Sîser, Zêvkê, Girê Kun, Girgaşê in Garê region 127 times; the areas of Serê Metîna, Şêlazê, Bêşîlî in Metîna region 272 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê, Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 594 times.

Interventions by our forces against attacks

At 10:30 am on April 9, our forces responded twice with individual and automatic weapons to the invaders who attacked our resistance tunnels in Şêlazê Resistance Area in Metîna region.

At 12:40 on April 10, our forces responded twice with automatic weapons to the invaders who attacked our resistance tunnels in Şêlazê Resistance Area in Metîna region.

At 06:15 on April 12,an armored vehicle that bombarded our tunnels and positions with heavy weapons in Sergelê Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was hit by a kamikaze drone.”
