22 people arrested in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality investigation

22 people were sent to prison in the investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

22 people, including the CHP mayors of Büyükçekmece, Avcılar, Gaziosmanpaşa, Seyhan, and Ceyhan, were sent to prison in the investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB).

A total of 38 people who were detained in four separate investigations launched over alleged "corruption" in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Beşiktaş Municipality, and Büyükçekmece Municipality were referred to court on Tuesday after their processing at the police station. In the early stages of the investigation, one person was arrested and another was released due to health issues.

Those arrested include: Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgül, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin and her husband Celal Tekin, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, CHP Party Assembly member Baki Aydöner, General Manager of Ağaç ve Peyzaj AŞ Ali Sukas, ISFALT General Manager Burak Korzay, Beylikdüzü Mayor’s advisor Veysel Erçevik, Avcılar Deputy Mayors Mehmet Mandacı and Erhan Daka, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayors Rıza Can Özdemir and Ömer Kazancı, Beşiktaş Deputy Mayor Alican Abacı’s father İsmet Abacı, as well as Fikret Demir, Ebubekir Akın, Özer Ayık, Sırrı Küçük, and Yusuf Yadoğlu.

Meanwhile, Gürkan Polat (assistant to the arrested Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık), Beşiktaş Municipality employees Görkem Kızılkaynak, İsmail Yalçın, and Şazime Sena Çelik; Onvo Büyükçekmece Basketball General Coordinator Halil Satı; company owner Hakan Ateş; Can Zafer Yaman; Gürkan Dölekli; Songül Demir; Bektaş Yıldız; Caner Vural; Fahri Aksoy; Fatih Yadoğlu; and Ozan İş were released under judicial control measures that include a travel ban and mandatory signature requirements.
