Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Brussels after the meeting in Russia with his counterpart Vladimir Putin. He was to address the refugees and Idlib crisis, and he was met with protest by Kurds and left activists in Schuman square.
According to political observers, Erdogan is trying to blackmail Europe by using the migration crisis. The Turkish President requested "concrete support" from NATO on Idlib. However NATO never got beyond verbal solidarity and support. Stoltenberg said that NATO will “continue to play its part from now on”, but has not clarified what role that would be.
The Turkish President has met European executives. The German government has already reported that a group of voluntary countries are ready to accept 1,500 children who are currently refugees in Greece.
"We will restart the dialogue," European Commission President German Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday. Events at the borders are unacceptable and should not be repeated. We have to listen to all parties."
Von der Leyen stated that the dialogue will continue in the coming days and weeks.
