Gülsüm Elvan: Today I won't cry, today I will rebel

Berkin Elvan was killed by police during the Gezi Park Resistance. Speaking at the memorial to mark the sixth anniversary of her son's death, Gülsüm Elvan said: "I will not cry today, I will rebel."

Berkin Elvan was murdered by the police during the Gezi Park Resistance. On Wednesday he was commemorated at the Feriköy Cemetery in Şişli on the 6th anniversary of his death.

The Elvan family, was joined by lawyers, HDP deputies Hüda Kaya, Ahmet Şık, CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kafancıoğlu and many representatives of political parties and democratic mass organizations. Police officers who blockaded the entrance door of Feriköy Cemetery were protested.

Gülsüm Elvan, leaning on her child's headstone said: "My child, your mother will not cry today. Today is not the day of crying. Your mother will rebel today. I am hungry for you and for justice."

Elvan's father: oppression continues in the country

Sami Elvan, Berkin's father, said that injustice and oppression continue in Turkey: "Berkin and all the lost children of this country are symbols of the country's democracy, fraternity and freedom. The unlawfulness we experienced in the past continues today."

Gülsüm and Sami Elvan called on the people to attend the hearing of the case over the killing of Berkin Elvan on March 18.
