Newroz reception at the British Parliament

A Newroz reception was held at the British Parliament. Attention was drawn to the success of the Kurds and freedom for Öcalan was demanded.

The sixth of Newroz receptions, traditionally organized by Center for Kurdish Progress, which operates in London, was held at the British Parliament's historic Churchill room, hosted by British Trade Minister Nadhim Zahawi.

The reception was attended by a large crowd which included 65 British deputies among which were Emma Hardy, Paul Maskey, Chris Stephens, Lord John Mann, Afzal Khan, Alıcia Kerb, Bob Seeley, Dawn Butler, Diane Abbott, Baroness Christine Blowers and Angus McNeil as well as 300 guests and representatives from the 4 parts of Kurdistan.

Zahawi: Kurds have achieved great gains

Speaking at the Newroz reception, presented by Ruwayda Mustafa, from the Center for Kurdish Progress, Trade Minister Nadhim Zahawi said that the Kurdish community living in Britain is becoming more and more visible in every area of ​​life. 

Conservative Party Deputy Bob Seeley, who was a British army officer when ISIS attacked Shengal, said that the best fighters he knew in his life were the Kurds.

Freedom for Öcalan

Baronesss Christine Blowers, Labour Party member of the House of Lords, and co-chair of the British unions-run Freedom for Öcalan Campaign, reiterated their call for the immediate release of Öcalan.

Speaking at the reception, Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey, SNP MP Chris Stephens and Labour MP Afzal Khan called for strengthening internationalist solidarity with the Kurdish people.

Leylan Uca, from the European Union of Kurdish Employers, said that it is a diplomatic success for the Kurdish people to organize Newroz receptions every year in the British Parliament.
