"The address of the solution is Öcalan"

Isolation against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. The applications made by the lawyers to meet with their client were rejected. Öcalan's brother, Mehmet Öcalan, was able to go to Imrali on 2 March.

HDP Urfa MP Ömer Öcalan talked to ANF about the isolation of Kurdish people's leader Öcalan and the Turkish government's Syria and refugee policy.

Öcalan pointed out that the isolation in Imralı has become more and more severe. "The state has prevented lawyers from meeting with Öcalan for 9 years. As a result of the hunger strike resistance of thousands of people in 2019, lawyers were able to go to Imralı 5 times in total. Mr. Öcalan showed once again reiterated his proposal for a solution during his meeting with his lawyers."

Reminding the fire that broke out in Imralı on 27 February, Ömer Öcalan said: "After the statements about the fire in Imralı, Kurds in four parts of Kurdistan and in Europe took to the streets.

Mr. Öcalan was said to have a good health and morale. Unfortunately, the Turkish state's approach to Mr. Öcalan has always been strategic. Sometimes they are isolated for years and sometimes they are allowed to meet."

Emphasizing that the Kurdish problem should be solved in a democratic and peaceful way, Ömer Öcalan said: "Mr. Öcalan is ready to negotiate for a solution. The Kurdish people, Middle Eastern people and the state know how effective Mr. Öcalan is. They have seen this between 2013-2015. Mr. Öcalan has been trying to solve the Kurdish problem for 21 years. Turkey needs to accept the rights of the Kurdish people."

Öcalan added: "Turkey situation is very bad now. The address for a solution is not Moscow and Washington. The address is Mr. Öcalan, the state must act seriously in this regard. The Russian statement claimed that 250,000 Kurds were displaced from their homes following the Afrin invasion. Nearly 150,000 people were displaced from Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî".

Talking about the Syrian policy, Ömer Öcalan said: "They deepen the war in Idlib to cut the front in Syria. All of the mercenaries went to Syria via Turkey. These mercenaries have carried out massacres for 7-8 years. Thousands of people were killed. The Kurds have imposed their existence in the Middle East and in the world and have achieved great gains. In the coming days, Kurds must strengthen their unity and alliance."

Talking about the situation at the border of Turkey and Greece, Ömer Öcalan said: "Turkey is carrying out a dirty policy against the Turkish state refugees. Three refugees have been killed by bullets. These refugees were forced to come to Turkey because of the war."

Turkey is using refugees against Europe, said Ömer Öcalan, "because Europe didn't do what Turkey wanted in Idlib."
