YSK rules for a rerun of Istanbul mayoral election

Gathering upon AKP’s request, Turkey’s Supreme Election Board (YSK) has made its final decision for Istanbul local election.

Final decision has been made for the extraordinary objections made by AKP to the Supreme Election Board of Turkey (YSK) for a repetition of the local elections in Istanbul and Büyükçekmece district, and by the MHP for entire Istanbul and Maltepe district.

AKP representative for YSK, Recep Özel, wrote the following on Twitter: “Istanbul elections will be repeated. Good luck with it.” In another post, Özel announced that the new vote will take place on June 23.

The YSK decision was made with 7 votes in favor and 4 against.

In the meantime, the Central Executive Board of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has convened for an extraordinary meeting under the chairmanship of General President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
