Ibrahim: Calls made by Autonomous Administration to international community are still valid

Xalid Ibrahim said that the Autonomous Administration's decision to prosecute ISIS mercenaries does not invalidate the calls made to the international public in the past.

The Autonomous Administration announced on 10 June that it would start prosecuting foreign ISIS mercenaries. This decision had repercussions in the local and international arena. It was also on the agenda of the regional media.

Xalid İbrahim, member of the Foreign Relations Department of the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration, told ANHA: "Most of the states are still discussing their stances on this issue. We tried to ask the positions of some international parties regarding the Autonomous Administration's decision, but they did not give any positive or negative answers."

Ibrahim said that they have established relations with some countries affiliated to the International Coalition and added: "As far as we understand from them, they are still in talks. We expect their positions to be clarified."

As to the relations with Arab countries, Ibrahim said: "There are some communication channels between the Autonomous Administration and some Arab states. But nothing has been decided yet in order to have a positive intervention in the course of the proceedings. Arab circles are very important for the Autonomous Administration."

Ibrahim said that some international legal institutions have raised questions about the judicial mechanism, the law, the parties to carry out the trials and the procedure of the trials and underlined once again that all men, women and children who commit crimes against the administration, structures and groups in Northern and Eastern Syria will be tried.

Ibrahim said that the Autonomous Administration's decision to prosecute mercenaries was taken after the administration's calls to international parties to establish an international court to prosecute them, and added that "despite all the calls made by the Autonomous Administration, no one took responsibility. The decision to put the mercenaries on trial was made by the Autonomous Administration to the international public. This does not mean that our calls are not valid anymore. If responsibility is taken in this regard, the Autonomous Administration will be ready to offer support."
