The workers in North and East Syria have organized themselves. They tell how, despite all the difficult conditions, the revolution has been built through their labor.
For the workers, too, the revolution of Rojava meant a significant change in their circumstances. ANF spoke with workers' representatives in the self-governing region of North and East Syria.
Hamida Ferman of the Committee of Women Workers stressed that women have taken the leadership of the revolution and built networks. Women are active as workers both inside and outside the home. Important steps have been taken for women workers, she said, but there is still much to do. Among other things, she pointed out the effects of the ongoing war. Ferman focused in particular on the achievements of the women fighters and said: "It is about taking responsibility for labor and freeing yourself through organizing."
Abdulkerim Ibrahim from the leadership of the Workers' Commission recalled the conditions under the Syrian regime and said: "At that time, nobody could dare to defend his rights. We worked very hard and received our wages too late. We had no right to equal pay anywhere. Now, with the revolution, we are able to get our labor's worth, both materially and spiritually. We work with great joy. Of course there are difficulties. The majority of the refugees from the war zones are also workers, so there are too few jobs. But with the establishment of new branches of work we will overcome this problem."
