Washokani camp massively overcrowded

The Washokani camp set up for internally displaced persons after the Turkish invasion of northern Syria is now massively overcrowded. Newly arriving refugees are accommodated in the Newroz Camp near Dêrik.

In the Washokani camp near Hesekê there are currently more than 9,000 IDPs living in 1,359 tents. The co-chairman of the camp warns that due to the lack of help, it is not possible to provide for further internally displaced persons. Also the erection of new tents is not possible due to the adverse weather conditions. Especially the food supply can no longer be guaranteed. Therefore newly arriving families are referred to the Newroz camp near Dêrik.

The whole supply of the camp is provided by the autonomous administration structures and the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor a Kurd). Although international organisations have been called upon several times to support the refugees, so far in vain.
