Tevgera Azadi criticised the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council’s decision to close 3 Yazidi parties and said that the decision was political and not legal.
At a time when the Turkish state is expanding its occupation attacks in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) and increasing its pressure on Baghdad, the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council has decided to dissolve the Yazidi Freedom and Democracy Party (PADÊ), Tevgera Azadi ya Civaka Kurdistanê (Kurdistan Freedom Movement) and the Democratic Struggle Front Party.
TevgeraAzadi held a press statement in Sulaymaniyah regarding the decision of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council to close down three parties.
Tara Hussein, Co-Chair of Tevgera Azadi, stated that they learnt about the decision of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council from social media platforms and said the following: "Founded on 17 June 2014, Tevgera Azadi has been waging a civil struggle since its establishment. At the same time, it has received official authorisation from the Political Studies Institution and the Iraqi High Electoral Commission. We were surprised when we heard this decision."
Pointing out that they were not informed before the decision was taken, Tara Hussein said that the decision was not legal.
Tara Hussein stated that Tevgera Azadi does not receive money and financial support from any organisation or party other than the support of the people and the dues of its members. She continued: "In the name of solidarity with the people, we have stopped dues for a year. Tevgera Azadi is the party whose income and economy are the most transparent and open. This decision is against the principles of our party. Those who stand with those who occupy Kurdistan must be prosecuted. We ask the Iraqi President and Prime Minister to prove that Tevgera Azadi has done anything illegal. We are against any foreign element or force that is against the values of Iraq."
Tara Hussein underlined that Tevgera Azadi is a civil, democratic and constitutional party and that they are ready to defend themselves against all accusations directed against them.
Tara Hussein concluded: "The political forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region should see well that this is a dangerous process that restricts the freedom of political work. We invite everyone to follow this process and the case closely and to take a decisive stance. This is a political decision, and the hand of foreign states and treason is behind it."
