The Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) reported that the Turkish air force bombed the Iraqi-Iranian border area on Saturday. The wave of attacks, which took place at 15:17 local time, was aimed at the Asos Mountains in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), the guerrilla organisation stated in a statement on Monday.
YRK stated that there were no losses in their ranks as a result of the air strikes, but there was serious damage to the vineyards and gardens of the local people.
The Asos Mountains are located just under 70 kilometres east of the city of Sulaymaniyah and a good 200 kilometres from the Turkish border. Nevertheless, Turkey regularly attacks the region under the guise of so-called border defence using drones and fighter jets. Turkey's deadly attacks on the Kurdish population remain without consequence for Ankara as the governments of Western states raise no voices or objections.
