A central rally on May 1st is expected to take place in Istanbul's Maltepe district. As the Governorate of Istanbul announced, tens of thousands of policemen will be on duty at the rally site and throughout the city "for security reasons".

A statement by the Governor's Office spoke of "precautionary measures of the highest order". This applies in particular to public transport and busy roads. According to the governor, 26,174 security forces are scheduled for 1 May.
