The European Parliament's Permanent Rapporteur on Turkey, Nacho Sánchez Amor MEP, spoke to journalist Erem Kansoy about the call by Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February, the decisions taken by the PKK at its 12th congress and Turkey's EU accession process. He said that "the situation of the accession process and democratic standards in Turkey are very linked to what is happening around the PKK and the new hope for the resolution of the Kurdish question. This is excellent news. We praise the call from Öcalan." 

Sánchez Amor added that "this is another historic occasion, and it can't be wasted. The EU can help if requested to do so."

Sánchez Amor has been the Socialists and Democrats' Group's Foreign Affairs spokesperson since July 2024.
