The organizations from Abya Yala that attended the 1st World Youth Conference “Youth Writing History” issued a statement to "profoundly condemn the military aggression against Kurdish territories."
The statement added: "News about bombings in areas like Derik, Rojava and in the Shengal autonomous region, as well as in the refugee camp at Maxmur fill us with rage and indignation. These attacks are not a coincidence: Rojava has been an example of social, feminist and ecological revolution since 2012, and it has contributed to a democratic, diverse way of life, showing that another world is possible.
Perhaps, for a lot of people, these places sound remote and unpronounceable, but for us these places are homes, fields and mountains that hold people who have organized themselves towards a dignified life. Like many organizations, they collectively seek a more just future for their people and their children, in this way, confronting the criminal and military power of the Islamist fascists of ISIS as well as the genocidal states of this region, like Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Israel, and other regions of the world where Russia, China, the United States and their allies in the Global North orchestrate their economic and military wars."
The statement added: "Although we are separated by thousands of kilometers, our empathy and solidarity trespass borders and flags. We share the same rage and commitment to justice and autonomy. In Abya Yala, we also face those who wish to defeat us with violence and oppression, but our struggle for autonomy and dignity stays as strong as it has been for over 500 years.
Our plurality of voices and convictions unite in solidarity with the Kurdish movement and people, whose struggle represents the defense of free self-determination and autonomy of territory. We recognize in Rojava an emblematic example of civil empowerment and political resistance, a light of true revolution.
As peoples, native communities, peasants, people of African descent, black women and palenqueras, women, queer people, the downtrodden and marginalized, urban and revolutionary, we unconditionally support the Kurdish people and their organization against the forces of the capitalist, patriarchal and colonial system. We are convinced that existence is founded on the defense of our territories, where we jointly face the patriarchal oppression of colonial empires and the capitalist system that doesn’t value human dignity, accumulating capital at the cost of life and nature, destroying our ancestral lands and collective ways of life."
The statement continued: "We are advocating for a peace that does not require submission, nor the relinquishment of our values or the principles of our identities. In this path, we raise our voice for the freedom of all political prisoners, among them Öcalan, whose incarceration represents an attack on the legitimate aspirations of a people that longs to live freely according to its traditions and culture.
Today, we give our full support to the Kurdish people, the struggle in Rojava, and all those who have been unjustly incarcerated for defending their lands, territories and rights. May our solidarity cross mountains and seas to echo in the cells where justice has been silenced.
END THE WARS AGAINST THE KURDISH PALESTINIAN, MAPUCHE, GUARANÍ KAIOWA, ZAPATISTA AND ALL OTHER INDIGENOUS PEOPLES STRUGGLING FOR LIFE AND AUTONOMY!
FREEDOM FOR MAPUCHE POLITICAL PRISONERS AND POLITICAL PRISONERS ACROSS THE WORLD!
THE SOUTH RESISTS IN EVERY CORNER OF THE GLOBAL SOUTH!
FOR LAND, JUSTICE AND FREEDOM, from ABYA YALA."
