The 26-day Long March draws public attention to Öcalan’s 26 years of captivity in the İmralı Island Prison in the Sea of Marmara in Turkey.
26 activists from 26 cities are staging a Long March in France to demand “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question”. Launched on January 21, the march will conclude with a rally in Strasbourg on February 15, the anniversary of the international conspiracy that resulted in the capture of the Kurdish leader in Kenya and his handover to Turkey in 1999.
Activists continued their action on its third day with diplomatic talks in Nantes, France.
The diplomatic delegation met with Pedro Maia, the representative of the Communist Party of France in Nantes, and his advisor Clément Chebanier. The meeting lasted about 45 minutes.
Diplomatic delegation members Cuma Tak, Saniye Tunç and İsmail Aydın emphasized that Abdullah Öcalan has been unlawfully held in İmralı Island Prison for 26 years, defining the regime imposed on him as “a genocidal policy”. The delegation stated that the policies in İmralı are directed against the Kurdish people and the oppressed peoples of the world.
The delegation also pointed out that Öcalan’s ideas are the cornerstone of the Rojava Revolution and that the Kurdish leader is the architect of the women's libertarian, democratic and ecological system established there.
Remarking that the Turkish state's attacks against Rojava are aimed at liquidating this system, the delegation expressed that the free life model in Rojava and the international campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question” are linked.
Noting that many events and actions are being organized within the scope of the campaign, the activists called on the Communist Party of France to support the campaign and to wage a joint struggle against capitalism by supporting the democratic modernity system in Rojava.
The delegation emphasized that Öcalan’s freedom is of vital importance not only for a solution to the Kurdish question but also for the liberation of the oppressed peoples in the Middle East and the world.
The Communist Party of France officials said that they are following the process and will try to support it by establishing more frequent contacts in the future.
The Long March continues with diplomatic activities and events.
