Co-Rapporteurs of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe on local democracy in Turkey call on the Turkish authorities to stop replacing democratically elected opposition party mayors with trustees.
Meral Danış Beştaş, co-spokesperson of the HDK, stated that they would resist the government's efforts to divide the opposition and emphasized that journalists and artists cannot be criminalized.
"The AKP government now considers freedom of organization as a "terrorist activity," leading to the criminalization of every opposition initiative through the judiciary," said the DEM Party, protesting the attacks against the opposition.
The final declaration published by the European People's Platform Conference said that the world is on the verge of a historic change and called on people to "reclaim the initiative".
