A museum not to forget the crimes by the Islamic State to be built in Raqqa

A museum not to forget the crimes carried out by the Islamic State and forces under Turkish command is being built in Raqqa.

In March 2024, the Body for Culture and Antiquities of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria has started work to open a museum to document violations and crimes against the population of Northern and Eastern Syria during the era of ISIS control, as well as the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state.

Over the coming days, the Museum will complete its second phase related to the museum's interior, and will start displaying contents such as photos, documents and other evidence of the crimes committed by ISIS mercenaries during their control of the region.

The museum is located next to Istiklal Park, in the northern part of the city of Raqqa, and it is 16 meters long and 4.5 meters wide.

The museum consists of three sections, the first includes the heritage of the region, the second presents photographs exposing the violations against the population of northeast Syria, while the third is a exhibition of miniature models of archaeological sites in the region.

The aim of building the museum, as Sarfaraz Sharif, co-chair of the Body for Culture and Antiquities, told ANHA news agency, is to document the crimes committed in the region.

"The museum – Sharif said - will be a witness to the violations and the silence of the outside world against all people of Northern and Eastern Syria."
