MSD invites UN Commission to Northeast Syria

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) invites the independent UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria to the autonomous regions to investigate its accusations against the SDF on the ground.

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) has commented on the investigation report of the UN Syria Commission published in Geneva on Tuesday. The statement said that the MSD welcomes the report and invites the UN Commission to Northern and Eastern Syria to investigate the claims on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the ground, which are listed in the report.

The MSD noted that the report strongly condemns the human rights violations and war crimes committed by the government in Damascus, the ISIS, the Tahrir al-Sham militia and the terrorist groups of the Turkish state, saying:

"The ethnocides and war crimes committed against civilians in Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Syria by the terrorist groups linked to the Turkish state were committed on the orders of the government of Turkey. The report states that terrorist groups have committed brutal crimes against Kurds and Yazidis in front of Turkish leaders. It is recorded that women, old people and minors have been killed, tortured, kidnapped and arrested, historical and religious sites have been looted and sexual crimes have been committed.

In its report, the Commission expresses its regret at the crimes committed by the Turkish occupying state and the terrorist groups under its control. It also states that, with the blockade of the waterworks in Alouk, the drinking water of over one million people in Hesekê is being used as a weapon of war.

The report further states that Turkey supports international terrorism and violates the sovereignty of the Mediterranean countries and its neighboring countries. It is stated that the Turkish state is causing conflicts through its hostile policy, thus destroying the security and stability of the region.

We call upon the international community to take immediate action against the crimes committed against the peoples of Syria. We call on the UN Security Council to immediately ensure the withdrawal of the Turkish state and terrorist groups controlled by it from Syria, to establish a special international court to punish the crimes committed by the Turkish state and its leaders, and to punish the ISIS and all terrorist groups.

Accusations against SDF

The UN Commission accuses the SDF, among other things, of the long detention or internment of ISIS jihadists and their relatives in prisons and camps under their control, including the Hol Camp, located southeast of Hesekê. SDF Commander General Mazlum Abdi criticized on Thursday that the "complex and international dimension" of the situation in the Hol Camp was "unjustifiably" ignored. The camp is home to some 65,000 people from dozens of different countries, including thousands of ISIS members and their families who were apprehended by the SDF after the capture of the terrorist organization's last bastion in eastern Syria last March. "Most states refuse to take back their nationals held in the camp. International organizations have reduced their role to humanitarian aid," said Mazlum Abdi.

Syrian Democratic Council

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) was founded in 2015 and is the political umbrella that provides the political framework for resolving the Syrian conflict through inter-Syrian talks and diplomatic work. Political parties as well as representatives of civil society, the autonomus administration and key figures are organized in the MSD.
