Oncological radiology center opened in Qamishlo

In order to bundle the competencies of its medical facilities, the Cizîrê Region Health Committee has opened an oncological radiology center in Qamishlo. It is the first facility of its kind in all of northern and eastern Syria.

The Health Committee of the self-governing Cizîrê Region has opened an oncological radiology center in the northeast Syrian metropolis Qamishlo. The building is located in the central Antariyah neighborhood behind the Clinic for Heart and Eye Diseases. This means that disciplines that were previously housed at different locations in the city are now centrally located.

Radiology today is more than just taking pictures - thanks to higher resolution, imaging techniques play a key role in many disciplines. In particular, modern tumor diagnosis and therapy would be unthinkable without radiology today: only by detecting malignant diseases as early as possible and making an exact diagnosis, including assessing the stage of the disease, can an effective therapy and thus a good prognosis be achieved.

Free treatment for refugees and security forces

"We have opened the oncological radiology center to bundle the expertise of our medical facilities in the region in the treatment of cancer. With its interdisciplinary network of oncology, surgery, and radiotherapy, the center enables holistic diagnosis, therapy and aftercare for the entire spectrum of oncological diseases," said Dr. Raperîn Hesen at the opening ceremony of the health center.

The Health Committee in Cizîrê, co-chaired by the physician, has set itself the goal of providing an integrated range of services and offering patients tailored therapies and care in accordance with the latest medical findings in every phase of their illness. Diagnostics, therapy and aftercare are free of charge for refugees, security forces and members of military institutions.

A first in the region

Such a health centre is a first in the region. It will make an important contribution to the care of those affected throughout the region. Until now, cancer patients have been forced to travel to Damascus or Southern Kurdistan for medical treatment. The oncological radiology centre is a great relief, as external treatment is both very complex and expensive.

First mammography centre also in Qamishlo

At the end of December, the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor a Kurd) had opened a centre for the early detection of breast cancer in Qamishlo. This is the first mammography practice in northern and eastern Syria. The examination is free of charge.
