Following the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, the people are setting up their own self-defense units to counter the attacks by the Turkish state and the Syrian National Army (SNA) mercenaries against North-East Syria.

Following the call for general mobilisation issued by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES), people have been forming self-defense battalions to protect and defend their living areas.

The People's Assembly in Girbawi town in Qamishlo announced the establishment of 3 more battalions under the umbrella of the Social Defence Forces (HPC) in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Edla Mecîd, a member of the Kongra Star Education Committee, read the press statement in front of Girbawi Town People's Assembly headquarters and stressed that they would defend the gains of the revolution until the end amid the increasingly ongoing attacks by the occupying Turkish state and allied mercenaries.

Edla Mecîd expressed their support and solidarity with the resistance of the SDF, YPG and YPJ at Tishrin Dam and vowed to stand with the defense forces of North-East Syria within the scope of mobilisation.

“We announce the establishment of 3 more battalions under the roof of the HPC with the slogan ‘Let us organise in every village, every neighbourhood, every city and every street and crown the gains of the revolution with democratic victory and freedom’. We declare that we will always defend ourselves on the basis of self-defence and defeat the occupation," Mecîd said.
