Jailed Nobel Peace Prize Narges Mohammadi condemned the death penalty given to Warisha Muradi, saying that it is "a violation of the most fundamental human rights – especially in a judicial system that has lost its independence.” Therefore, calling for solidarity towards the abolition of the death penalty, Mohammadi added: “Since the justice system in oppressive regimes submits to the authoritarian structure, opposing the death penalty should be everyone’s issue."
Mohammadi emphasized the importance of the struggle against the death penalty as an integral part of the resistance to the authoritarian regime in Iran. She said that "the regime uses execution as a tool of oppression," and added that "social opposition should not only aim for political change but also for the complete abolition of the death penalty."
The human rights defender concluded her message by saying: "To continue this struggle, we must dismantle the execution machine and stop the issuance and implementation of death sentences. I hope that, one day, we too, will declare the complete abolition of the death penalty. That day will be a great milestone and will open the door to new victories."
