MKG: Release the detained journalists

The MKG condemned the operation targeting the HDK and demanded the immediate release of the detainees.

The Mesopotamian Women Journalists Association (MKG) issued a statement about the detention of journalists as part of the police operation carried out by Istanbul-based authorities against the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK).

In its statement, the MKG said: "These detentions are part of the government’s attempts to suppress critical and independent journalism. The deliberate targeting of women journalists highlights an effort to diminish their presence in the media and obstruct their pursuit of truth. Journalists will continue to uncover the facts, be the voice of society, and resist oppression.

Press freedom is the cornerstone of a democratic society. However, in Turkey, the government's repressive policies have escalated to the point of silencing and criminalizing journalists, writers, and media workers, thereby violating the public’s right to information. Such unlawful detentions and repression will not conceal the truth. As the MKG, we demand the immediate release of our colleagues. We call on all defenders of a free press to strengthen solidarity and stand together against the oppression of journalists. A free press cannot be silenced! Women journalists are not alone."
