On 20 November, the guerrillas launched a major offensive against the Turkish army in the western Zap region in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
In this context, the HPG (People's Defence Forces) and the YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) carried out a series of actions on 20 November at three locations in the Girê Amêdîyê region in western Zap, killing 49 soldiers. In addition, 21 military tents and twelve positions of the invading forces were destroyed.
Gerîla TV published footage of the Girê Şehîd Pîrdogan action group that took part in the revolutionary operation.
In the footage which was recorded before the guerrillas’ departure for the operation, the guerrilla group state that they engage in a very harsh battle, noting that their preparations are in the final phase.
The guerrilla group tells that they have been making preparations for a long time to end the occupation in Kurdistan and to avenge their fallen companions, stating:
“Our preparations are in the final phase. In great spirits, all the comrades are focused on putting their passion to avenge the martrys into practice. We will move to the Şehîd Pîrdogan hill in the Girê Amediyê area where the enemy troops are trying to make their occupation permanent. Our comrades there are faced with psychological pressure. We will do whatever we can to stop the enemy and to expel them. We will move on the enemy without hesitation.”
Gerîla TV also shared details from the last moments of the guerrillas leaving for action. Taking leave from their companions, the guerrilla group is seen off to the accompaniment of applause and slogans as they leave the tunnel.
One of the guerrillas pays tribute to the martyrs on the founding anniversary of the PKK on 27 November, saying: “We will fight in this spirit and we belive that victory will be ours.”
Another guerrilla says: “We will not give in, but the enemy will,” vowing to send back the occupiers.
