YJA Star guerrilla Ezda Andok: Bêrîtan never accepted betrayal and surrender

YJA Star guerrilla Ezda Andok said: "Bêrîtan has never accepted betrayal and surrender."

YJA Star guerrilla Ezda Andok spoke to ANF on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) and the martyrdom of Bêrîtan (Gülnaz Karataş) a pioneer in the Kurdish freedom movement who laid the foundation for the development of the autonomous Kurdish women’s guerrilla. In a battle against the KDP in 1992, she was surrounded by the enemy and instead of surrendering, she decided to throw herself off a cliff.

Ezda Andok said: "Today is the 32nd anniversary of the death of comrade Bêrîtan (Gülnaz Karataş). At the same time, this month is also called the month of women martyrs. This month, our valuable commanders Meryem, Helin Çerkes, Canda Türk, Arîn Mîrkan fell as martyrs.

We respectfully bow to these comrades and commemorate them. With the death of comrade Bêrîtan, Rêber Apo [Abdullah Ocalan] declared the formation of the women's army. Today, we, the women militants and fighters, are entering the 32nd year of the formation of the women's army. Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the women's army for all women, friends in the struggle and women comrades. As it is known, our valuable commander, comrade Bêrîtan, became a line of freedom for all women comrades.

She resisted surrender and betrayal to the end and fell a martyr. She never accepted betrayal and surrender. Today, we are the militants of this organization, and as guerrillas, we are following in the footsteps of comrade Bêrîtan, and we want to continue our struggle on this line.

Comrade Bêrîtan became an example and symbol of a free woman who does not surrender in the face of betrayal. She became a symbol of self-sacrifice. Today, we are fighting and struggling on that line in our posts. We will always walk on this line and continue our struggle. She was an example that we are all proud of."
