Asya Abdullah: March for freedom being led by women

Addressing via phone to thousands of women who have marched from Dewşen to Mehşer village of Urfa at Kobanê border to mark the 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, PYD (Democratic Union Party) Co-President Asya Abdullah said they as the women of Rojava welcomed with open arms the gathering of women at the border in solidarity with YPJ fighters. Abdullah said they remembered all the fallen women in the struggle with respect, stressing; “As Kurdish women inheriting their struggle, we are leading a historical revolution in Rojava. Thousands of women have fallen a martyr in the struggle for freedom, and hundreds in Sinjar and Kobanê. The revolution of women continues.”

Remarking that a history is being written in Kobanê now, Abdullah said the resistance of the YPJ has been a response to male dominance and femicide, stressing that the revolution in Rojava applied to all the women around the world.

The PYD Co-President remarked that the Kobanê resistance proceeded determinedly thanks to the labor of women, recalling that resistance led by women in Sinjar also continued. Noting that women are still fighting in the front lines despite all the attacks they are facing, Abdullah said; "While continuing the fight at the battle front, the women are on the other hand making an effort to build a democratic life in the male-dominated Middle East territory. Women are now proceeding on their way by undertaking a leading mission in all foundations. No attack can intimidate the women who are leading the march for freedom in four parts of Kurdistan now. We will build free Kurdistan under the leadership of women."
