Preparations are in full swing for the Hasan Kızıler Youth Festival, which Kurdish youth traditionally organize each year in Switzerland.
The 13th Hasan Kızıler Youth Festival, held under the slogan "Bi Şoreşa Çandî Ber Bi Sosyalizmê Ve" ("Towards Socialism through Cultural Revolution"), will take place on 31 May at Helvetiaplatz in Zurich, from 3 pm.
The festival organizing committee released a written statement, saying: "Our festival is a stance against isolation, depoliticization, and de-identification. Revolutionary culture is not only found in art, music, or words, but is a form of organized resistance in all areas of life. We carry this culture into the future, nourished by accumulated social memory, our history of resistance, and the path of women's liberation. Keeping Hasan Kızıler’s name alive and uniting his legacy of resistance with the spirit of today’s youth is both an honor and a historical responsibility for us."
The statement continued: "We are not confined to a particular moment in time; we are a social force most open to the search for freedom, committed to truth, and courageous enough to drive transformation. As youth, we are the source of rebellion against the status quo, creative energy, and the will to build a new life. We represent the organized resistance determined to build a free and equal society, in opposition to the individualism, passivity, and decayed lifestyle imposed by the dominant system. That’s why we are not just a force of opposition, but a historical willpower to construct a new life."
We are the carriers and transformers of this will
The statement continued: "The historic declaration made on 27 February by Abdullah Öcalan once again showed that freedom is not merely a dream, but the product of an organized, conscious, and determined social will. For us young people, this perspective is not just a direction but a call for a comprehensive struggle against all forms of slavery that permeate every part of life.
Freedom is too profound to be reduced to individual choices, yet concrete enough to be built through collective consciousness and social organization. We are the carriers and transformative force of this will. A society based on women’s liberation, ecological balance, and democratic life can only be built by this will."
