Public sector workers affiliated with several labor unions belonging to the Confederation of Public Employees' Unions (KESK) will hold a protest and strike nationwide today. The purpose of the labor action is to protest the shameful increase in the minimum wage. Unions representing workers in various fields, including public education, health, and administration, plan to participate in the work stoppage.
Demonstrations will take place in cities across the country, such as Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Eskisehir.
In addition to planned protests, striking teachers may stage ad hoc rallies at national and regional education administrative centers.
KESK said in a statement: "We are uniting our forces and raising our voices against the policies that are dragging us into poverty and insecurity. We invite all workers, retirees, unions and democratic mass organizations, without discrimination, to join and support our work stoppage action, to receive the reward of our labor and to leave a better future for our children, and to fight together against this capitalist system."
