Answering journalists' questions after the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting, DEM Party co-chair Tülay Hatimoğulları drew attention to the Peace and Democratic Society Call made by Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February, and said that the PKK gathered and made a decision within the scope of this call.
Tülay Hatimoğulları added: "The decision announced by the PKK today is a very important turning point in the history of Turkey. It is a very important decision. The development of concrete steps to be taken in democratization will be very decisive in the process that follows. In a place where guns have fallen silent, where there are no conflicts, the most important duty that falls on all of us, the government, the opposition and all social segments of Turkish society, is to ensure a democratic change and transformation in Turkey together, to take the urgent steps that need to be taken in this sense and to move forward in the construction of the Democratic Republic. The way has been opened for this. May it be auspicious for all the people of Turkey."
