The dead body of Zindan Yedi who died in a conflict in the Dicle district of Amed (Diyarbakır) in September 2021 was given to his father, Hasan Yeni, in a storage box eight months later.
The death examination report was also not delivered to the family.
Mother Menice Yeni, speaking to Mezopotamya News Agency, said that the soldiers informed them about the death of their son on November 9, 2021.
"The cause of death unknown"
The family applied to Dicle Chief Public Prosecutors' Office demanding the dead body of their son, but they were referred to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutors' Office later.
"No blood sample was taken for the identification of the body and the prosecutor told us that 'the cause of death is unknown.' They told us that the body was going to be transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) and after that, it was going to be delivered to us"
"It took months to receive the body. We applied several times during that process but did not get any positive response. We applied to the Human Rights Association (İHD) Diyarbakır Branch for support. However, the prosecutor did not respond to İHD either."
Possibility of death by chemical weapon
Mother Yeni thinks that her son might have died from a chemical weapon.
"Although only four people from the family went to receive the body, 20 unmarked police cars, 2 armored vehicles, and 3 police buses were following us."
"The police station in our village was permanently calling my husband and asking him not to bring the body to our village. Even before we received the body, they were threatening us. When we arrived at the ATK, they gave the body of our son in a storage box."
This is not the first time a family has received the dead body of their family members in a storage box. The dead body of Agit İpek, who died in a conflict in Dersim on 23 May 2017, was sent to his mother in a plastic box by cargo in May 2020.
The Chief Prosecutor's Office called the family in May 2019 and told them that they had found the body of their son. The family went to he ATK and gave a blood sample for the DNA test.
According to test results, it was understood that the body belongs to Agit İpek and İstanbul ATK transferred the body to PTT.
The body was sent to the family in May 2020 in a little, rectangular cargo box tagged with a yellow Post Office label.
