Jailed co-chairs of the HDP sent a message to mark the Kurdish New Year Newroz, stressing that: "We will not bow down or kneel before tyranny and tyrants. We will uphold our people’s dignity everywhere and we will definitely win."
Jailed co-chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ sent a message to mark the Kurdish New Year Newroz.
The message by HDP co-chairs on behalf of all HDP politicians in jails is as follows:
“Our dear sisters and brothers,
Beloved mothers,
Young comrades,
Women comrades,
We salute the millions of all ages who fill Newroz arenas with the warmth of the fire of freedom. We celebrate your Newroz with the wish that it paves the way to the resolution of the Kurdish issue, democracy and peace.
The fire of Newroz which lights up even the deepest darkness is aflame this year as well, in spite of all repression and bans.
From the Newroz of 2013 which turned into a magnificent feast upon Mr Öcalan’s historical call for peace to this day, the institution of politics has regretfully not been able to give a gift of peace to our peoples. Even though the main reason of failure is the insistence of the ruling political identity on war, we nevertheless feel ourselves indebted and embarrassed in front of our people.
On behalf of thousands of our comrades from HDP who are in jail we would like to once more express sincerely that we will continue with our struggle for peace never giving up our quest for freedom through democratic politics.
We will not bow down or kneel before tyranny and tyrants. We will uphold our people’s dignity everywhere and we will definitely win.
We celebrate your Newroz once more and respectfully salute all our martyrs who engraved Newroz in history as the feast of resistance and dignity, and send our whole-hearted greetings to each and every one of you.
