In North and East Syria, no infection with the novel coronavirus has been detected so far and there is a lack of testing possibilities. Nevertheless, preparations are being made in the autonomous region for the outbreak of the pandemic. In Qamishlo a privately-run wedding hall has been made available to the Health Committee. The hall is now being converted into a temporary treatment centre with 250 beds.

There is a curfew throughout the region, which is particularly difficult for poor people. Free bread is distributed in many places. In Shehba the autonomous administration has distributed food packages to 2000 families. Tailor shops have switched their production to face masks.
