The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) in North-East Syria released a statement celebrating Kurdish Language Day on May 15
“Like all other languages, the Kurdish language has fulfilled its historical mission and has been the bearer of the Kurdish people's cultural heritage. Language has always been the identity of peoples and a symbol of their existence. It is necessary to emphasize once again the importance of language in the Kurdish people's struggle for defense,” TEV-DEM said.
The statement pointed out that: “Our people sacrificed thousands of their values in the struggle for freedom and democracy. They resisted all forms of cultural and linguistic genocide. They protected their language and identity from all kinds of attacks. Today, Kurdish is visible in all areas of administration, just like Arabic and Syriac. This is a significant achievement in itself and must be protected. As TEV-DEM, we celebrate Kurdish Language Day and once again emphasize that protecting the Kurdish language and culture is our legitimate right.”
