French senator: We stand by Kurds in this brave action

“I would like to reiterate that I offer my full support to this Kurdish initiative, which is militant and courageous for the cause of the Kurdish people”, said the senator, adding that injustices in the world should end.

In a letter sent to to KCDK-E co-chair Yüksel Koç, Isere Senator Guillaume Gontard said that Kurds especially are fighting against isolation and added he is on their side.

Gontard, a member of the French Communist Party (PCF), deputy chairman of the Senate Committee for Reconstruction and Sustainable Development, is part of the Communist, Republican, Ecologist and Citizen Group (CRCE), in which many left parties converged.

Solidarity with the hunger strike resistance

In his letter, Gontard underlined that the resistance against isolation was “brave”. The French senator said he is sensitive to the issue of the hunger strike and repression of Kurds, especially the HDP and reminded he has received a letter from jailed MP Ferhat Encu. The Senator also expressed his solidarity with the hunger strike resistance that, he said, he has been following since the beginning, on 17 December.

“I would like to reiterate that I offer my full support to this Kurdish initiative, which is militant and courageous for the cause of the Kurdish people”, said the senator, adding that injustices in the world should end.

Call to the international community

Addressing the international community, Guillaume Gontard said: “The unjustifiable violations of the fundamental rights of the Kurdish people must come to an end as soon as possible. The international community should immediately take measures to ensure the protection of endangered peoples on the basis of respect for international conventions.”

Special address to French and European governments

Senator Gontard addressed especially the French and European governments that are remaining silent in front of the violations carried out by the Turkish state.

He added France and the other European countries should play a role in raising their voice with Turkey.

Gontard ended his letter by reiterating that there is a need for unity of actions in order to push governments to exercise pressure on Turkey and urge it to stop attacks against Kurds in the Middle East countries.
