Trustee celebrates seizure of the Kars municipality with prayer

After his appointment as trustee in Kars, Governor Türker Öksüz moved into the city hall with an army of bodyguards and blessed the "conquest" of the city with Friday prayers as his first official act.

After the arrest of the co-mayors in Kars, governor Türker Öksüz, was appointed as trustee to the municipality. The former co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen was imprisoned on Friday. The day before, Şevin Alaca, the female co-mayor in the municipality of Kars was also taken into custody. The governor's appointment as trustee came only ten minutes after the announcement of the arrest warrant against Ayhan Bilgen. As a result, all HDP-ruled major cities in Turkey are now under trustee administration.

The trustee moved into the city hall with an army of bodyguards. All access roads were cordoned off with armored police vehicles. The first official act of Türker Öksüz was the Friday prayer in front of the city hall.

Meanwhile, a group led by HDP MPs Habil Eksik and Dersim Dağ protested against the seizure of the city hall. When the police tried to stop the MPs from making a statement, the group responded with a sit-in. The police justified their action by the two-week ban issued by the governor.
